Avril Ramona Lavigne is a Canadian singer-songwriter, fashion designer, actress, and philanthropist. She was born in Belleville, Ontario, but spent the majority of her youth in the small town of Napanee. By the age of 15, she had appeared on stage with Shania Twain; by 16, she had signed a two-album recording contract with Arista (now RCA Records) worth more than $2 million. When she was 17 years old, Lavigne broke onto the music scene with her debut album, Let Go, released in 2002.

Lavigne branched out from recording music, pursuing careers in feature film acting and designing clothes and perfumes. She voiced a character in the animated film, Over the Hedge, in 2006. That same year, she made her on-screen feature film debut in Fast Food Nation. In 2008, Lavigne introduced her clothing line, Abbey Dawn, and in 2009, she released her first perfume, Black Star, which was followed by her second perfume, Forbidden Rose, in 2010. In July 2006, Lavigne married her boyfriend of two years, Deryck Whibley, lead singer and guitarist for Sum 41. The marriage lasted a little over three years, and in October 2009, Lavigne filed for divorce. Whibley and Lavigne continued to work together, with Whibley producing her fourth album, as well as Lavigne’s single, “Alice”, written for Tim Burton’s film Alice in Wonderland.

The multi-platinum selling singer embarks on her eagerly anticipated Black Star Tour in support fourth album, Goodbye Lullaby

Canadian singer-songwriter, Avril Lavigne returns to Singapore on 9 May to perform at the Indoor Stadium in The Black Star Tour, to promote her fourth album Goodbye Lullaby. Lavigne was last here in 2008 and performed a sold out concert in front of her legions of local fans.

From a small town girl in Napanee, Ontario, Lavigne has made an indelible mark on the music community, selling more than 30 million albums worldwide, earning eight Grammy nominations and seven Canadian Juno Awards. She burst onto the music scene in 2002 with the critically acclaimed Let Go, featuring the smash singles “Sk8r Boi” and “Complicated.” Her 2004 release, Under My Skin, debuted at #1 on the Billboard charts, as did her third album, The Best Damn Thing, which produced the irrepressible #1 single “Girlfriend” and logged more than 130 million views on YouTube.

No longer the skater girl, grown-up Lavigne is now 26, and with almost four years since her last album, plenty has happened. Insights from her experiences are reflected in her songs which gave the latest album a bittersweet mood, a slight departure from Lavigne’s best known tunes.

“Overall, the album is about how we all go through difficult experiences, whether it’s ending a relationship, losing a job, or just missing someone,” Lavigne says. “We get through it and we grow.”

Lavigne looks forward to hit the road again and perform for her fans. Singapore will be the third leg of the Asian tour. With her upcoming Hong Kong concert now effectively sold out local fans are eagerly anticipating the opportunity to see her up close and personal once again.
